September is Suicide Prevention Month
With September also being Suicide Prevention Month, it's ESPECIALLY important to talk about proactive and preventive care and practices we ALL need to take better care of ourselves and each other, through good times and bad.
This starts (and doesn't stop) with greater awareness, understanding, and acceptance of mental health as a matter of healthful mental function and neurological activity in the brain and nervous system — that is NOT a matter of being evil, weak, or lacking willpower as we're so often taught and told by those who don't accept or understand.
This lack of understanding and acceptance is what contributes to the toxic effects of shame, stigma, and similarly unhealthful and limiting biases and beliefs that prevent us from accepting and caring for our full human selves.
Awareness, understanding, and acceptance are the keys needed for every person to seek and find the care and support they need to optimize their abilities, to thrive in their environment, to achieve their full potential!
